Telephone lines are known to criminals as carriers of alarm signals and as a precaution they cut the lines and hence cut off any signals to our control room. Another argument against using a telephone line is that they cannot transmit as quickly as a radio can. A radio signal is pretty much instantly received on our side. A radio is cheaper in the long run if many signals are sent.
